Manchester United’s horror home record continued with defeat to Brighton, who have won their last three Premier League matches at Old Trafford.

The Seagulls eased to a comfortable 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Yankuba Minteh gave the visitors a first half lead as he tapped home following a square ball from Kaoru Mitoma.

United levelled before the interval, though, thanks to a penalty from Bruno Fernandes.

That was as good as it got for the hosts, however, who were only saved from falling behind early in the second half by VAR.

Joao Pedro’s disallowed strike was soon followed by a legal second goal for Brighton as Kaoru Mitoma restored their lead.

Georginio Rutter then added a third with 14 minutes remaining after capitalising on an error from Andre Onana.

The United goalkeeper spilled a low cross into the box, gifting Rutter with the chance to score.

Brighton had won five of their last six Premier League meetings with United prior to Sunday’s clash.

They have now extended that record to six wins from seven dating back to May 2022.

It is also the Seagulls’ third consecutive Premier League victory at Old Trafford, becoming only second team to achieve the feat against United.

City have previously done the same on two separate occasions in the competition’s history.

Their first three-match win streak came between October 2011 and March 2014, having started with an infamous 6-1 thrashing of their city rivals.

Meanwhile, the second spanned from September 2016 to April 2019.

The loss to Brighton also deepens United’s recent league woes at home as they suffered a fourth loss in five matches.

Meanwhile, Man United have suffered their sixth home Premier League defeat of the season, their most from their opening 12 home matches of a league season since the 1893/94 season, where they lost seven of those games.

Thursday’s comeback victory against bottom club Southampton remains their only home league win since beating Everton on December 1.

Ruben Amorim’s side end the weekend 13th in the table with their tenth league defeat of the campaign.
