Mason Mount had to be substituted following a nasty head collision against Tottenham.

In the final ten minutes of the match with the visiting Spurs leading 3-0, Manchester United midfielder Mount went to challenge an aerial ball with Radu Dragusin.

However, the United man sustained a heavy blow and blood was seeing pouring from his head.

Mount was unable to continue in the final stages of the match and Erik ten Hag replaced him with Amad Diallo.

The former Chelsea man had just made his return to action for United following a hamstring injury.

He replaced Kobbie Mainoo as part of a midfield shake-up following Bruno Fernandes’ first-half red card.

Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke capped off a miserable afternoon for the Red Devils at Old Trafford as they lost 3-0.

Whilst Spurs have risen to eighth in the Premier League, United sit 12th in the standings with just two wins from six matches.

Defeat on Sunday is their third of the campaign so far and already raises questions over their ability to qualify for European football.

Ten Hag’s side are six points adrift of fifth spot that is currently occupied by Aston Villa, their next league opponents.

It took Spurs just three minutes to open the scoring as Micky van de Ven almost ran the length of the pitch before assisting Johnson’s tap-in.

United captain Fernandes was then shown a straight red card on the approach to half-time for a high foot on James Maddison.

Kulusevski doubled the north London side’s advantage two minutes into the second-half with a close-range finish.

The third and final goal came from Solanke as he nodded in from Pape Matar Sarr’s corner.

United have the chance to respond on Thursday night in their Europa League trip to Porto before their clash away at Villa, their final match ahead of the international break.
