Real Madrid are looking to add defensive reinforcements in the summer transfer window and Arsenal's William Saliba is among their preferred targets.
Los Blancos have been hit by injuries this season, especially in the defence, with the likes of Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger often being sidelined.
Although they have unearthed a gem of talent in Raul Asencio from their academy ranks, Real are looking to add another top-quality young defender to their ranks.
According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real arehugeadmirers of Saliba and have regularly sent scouts to monitor his progress.
Saliba has developed into one of the best centre-backs in Europe following his impressive performances with the Gunners over the last couple of seasons.
The French youngster has been a colossus in the backline, helping Mikel Arteta's side transform into one of the juggernauts in Europe and Premier League title contenders.
Besides, Real have also shortlisted Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen and Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni as potential transfer targets.
Due to the revised format of the Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup, the Spanish giants might as well bring in a new central defender to increase their squad depth and sustain their success on all fronts.
Will Saliba be an ideal signing for Real Madrid?
Real Madrid have always managed to lure in some of the top talents across the globe due to their appeal and financial muscle.
Saliba also fits in as a Galactico signing, as only a few players in the world would fall in the same bracket of elite centre-backs as the Frenchman.
The 23-year-old hardly has any flaws in his game, excelling in passing abilities and rock solid in defence.
Los Blancos have always been a home to the best defenders, and Saliba has a great opportunity to script history with the Spanish giants.
Real can also envisage Raul Asencio and Saliba as their future defensive line-up, with both possessing the winning mentality and leadership qualities apart from their higher ceiling.
However, Los Blancos could find it difficult to prise Saliba away from the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners also view him as an integral part of their future.
Furthermore, Saliba, whose contract runs until 2027, has recently vowed his commitment to the Gunners, stating that he wants to win trophies with the club and etch his name in history.
The Gunners haven't been able to win major trophies since 2020, but they have made huge strides in the last couple of seasons, finishing as the Premier League runners-up last term and are currently second in the table. They see Saliba as a pivotal figure to end their trophy drought.
