Aberdeen are still waiting to learn what they will be paid for Connor Barron.

But tonight they will come up against the man who walked out on them in the summer to make the step up to Rangers.

Barron has enjoyed a decent start to life at Ibrox, one of the club’s better performers in some of their early games and looking like a shrewd signing given the tribunal fee is only likely to be seven figures.

The 22-year-old’s Gers career is still fledgling but he looks like he could become a key man in years to come if the improvement keeps coming.

Barron to return to Aberdeen with Rangers

Tonight’s game is pivotal for so many reasons.

Rangers could fall NINE points behind their opponents should they slip up but on the flip side have the chance to cut the gap to three and build some momentum to keep themselves in the hunt for the top two.

But it is also a huge night for Barron on his return to Pittodrie.

His exit from the club wasn’t well received by the Red Army who are likely to be baying for blood tonight.

They are always hostile towards Rangers in these fixtures but the likes of Ryan Jack and Scott Wright have had it particularly bad in recent years.

Barron’s former teammate Nicky Devlin reckons he will know what’s coming.

He said, as per the Daily Record: "It will be an interesting evening for Connor.

"He probably knows what to expect and what's coming. He was with Aberdeen for a long time, but I'm sure he will thrive on that added pressure.

"As players you don't get too caught up in it and I'm sure he will be the same, he won't want to get too caught up. The atmosphere will be what it is regardless anyway, so I'm sure he's looking forward to it as well."

What kind of reception will Barron get at Aberdeen?

As mentioned, Jack and Wright have had it particularly tight when returning to Pittodrie with Gers.

And that probably does give an indication of what it will be like for Barron.

Aberdeen fans just can’t accept their players crossing that particular divide, especially when it is one from their city who has come through the academy.

The 22-year-old has mostly coped with the step up pretty well so far so let’s hope he can take the pressure in his stride this evening.
