Decision made on future of Rangers youngster who has barely featured under Clement

The case of Alex Lowry at Rangers is a frustrating one.
The talented and creative midfielder was probably the most hyped youngster to come out of Auchenhowie in recent years with hopes high the club had a first-team star of the future on their hands.
Top team cameos as a teenager in the 2021/22 season did little do dampen that and included a really well taken goal away to Hearts at the end of the campaign.
Lowry was hampered by a knee injury at the beginning of the next campaign though and then didn’t really kick on afterwards, making just five sub appearances in the league.
Last season he went on loan, ironically to Tynecastle, and had his moments but was eventually sent back to Ibrox as he struggled to hold down a place in the team.
His career was then at a crossroads and it was thought he could head out again. There were interested clubs but Carlisle boss Paul Simpson made it clear Lowry did not want to leave Rangers.
That doesn’t seem to have paid off for him though and Lowry was nowhere to be seen as Rangers B won the Glasgow Cup this week.
Rangers ‘to allow’ Lowry to leave in January transfer exit
Lowry has now not made a top team Rangers appearance since December 2023 and is now not being seen in the B team, with no mention of an injury.
At 21 it would seem important for him to start playing games sooner rather than later.
Recruitment chief turned technical director Nils Koppen previously took a ‘laziness’ dig at Rangers some men, taken to be aimed at the likes of Lowry.
And it looks like the club are now likely to let him go.
The Daily Mail are reporting that “Lowry's race at Ibrox looks to be done.”
There has previously been loan interest from the Scottish Premiership and the EFL and that would likely be the case again, although Rangers may prefer a permanent deal.
Several players could make Rangers January transfer exits
Lowry was one of eight players we highlighted could leave Rangers in the January transfer market.
His fellow youngster Leon King, the defender once rated just as highly, not getting near the first-team either.
Others included captain James Tavernier, who has had plenty of interest, and Cyriel Dessers.
It has since emerged Dessers has ‘strong interest’ from Ligue 1 in France.
