Ex-Rangers academy starlet could face exit-bound Ibrox star in Bundesliga promotion battle

Rangers have seen the big Premier League academies poach some of their top talent in recent seasons.
But in the case of Dire Mebude, things didn't exactly go to plan after a shock move to Manchester City as a teenager.
Rangers banked a small fee when Mebude made the switch to Manchester in 2020 and benefitted from a sell-on clause when Adedire moved to Westerlo in 2023.
But now Dire is on the move again and he could face a promotion battle one current Rangers star in the German second flight this season.

Adedire Mebude moves to HSV
Dire Mebude might have a few Rangers following him for the rest of the season after singing a loan deal with Hamburger SV.
Rangers have a club partnership with HSV and have a relationship with the Bundesliga 2 club which stretched back to Glaswegian dock workers relocating to the city in the 1970s.
Mebude moves to HSV until the end of the season and has already been left speechless by the 57k seater Volksparkstadion.
“I am very happy to now be a part of HSV," started the ex-Rangers youth. "And to call this stadium, for which I can hardly find the right words, my home.”
Rangers star set to move to Bundesliga 2?
HSV are the current leaders of a tight Bundesliga 2 title race with only six points separating 1st to 9th in the German second flight table.
Dire Mebude will be hoping to fire HSV to promotion to the Bundesliga this season but he might have to overcome a current Rangers star to do so.
That's because Rabbi Matondo has been spotted in discussions with Hannover 96 over a potential January loan move to the German outfit.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany is now reporting Matondo is 'on the verge' of completing the transfer.
Hannover 96 are currently 5th in the Bundesliga 2 this season, three points off league leaders HSV and Adedire Mebude.
