Former Rangers winger Ryan Kent is STILL a free agent after leaving Fenerbahce almost three months ago.

Kent has even been mentioned for a potential sensation return to Gers as he searches for a new club.

As ever with the 28-year-old though, plenty of big clubs are being named in the conversation and Kent was suggested as an ideal signing for Ajax amid their injury crisis.

Dating back to his time at Ibrox, he always seemed to be attracting interest back in England with the likes of Leeds and Burnley regularly linked.

Available on a free transfer and with clubs now laying out their plans with the transfer window open, he could be a smart acquisition for somebody.

And the English Championship could be his next destination.

Kent could team up with Cantwell at Blackburn

Blackburn could reportedly team Kent up with his former Rangers teammate Todd Cantwell.

The Championship side snapped up the creative midfielder in the summer to end his controversial Ibrox spell.

Cantwell has been praised for his impact at Blackburn and could soon be joined by the man he shared a dressing room with for half a season.

The Sun are reporting that Rovers are eyeing up both Kent and Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp for the left wing position.

Schlupp’s versatility and ability to also play left-back makes him the frontrunner but they are said to also be “checking” on the former Gers man.

Journalist Alan Nixon stated on his Patreon channel: “Blackburn are also checking a move for free agent Ryan Kent in the same position but Schlupp can play left-back as well, making him doubly attractive."

Should Rangers swoop for Kent?

Rangers News previously suggested Kent as a possible target for Philippe Clement this month.

It may make sense given Rabbi Matondo and Oscar Cortes’ fitness issues, the latter only just returning and getting up to speed.

On top of that, Ross McCausland, Jefte, Ridvan Yilmaz or Dujon Sterling don’t necessarily offer enough in that position.

And it would allow for Vaclav Cerny to be rested without the whole attack falling apart.
