Rangers will look to make more waves in the January transfer window.

Philippe Clement’s side brought Rafael Fernandes in on loan earlier this month on loan from Lille as the manager looks to reinforce his squad to compete on three fronts.

Chief executive Patrick Stewart has already revealed the number of signings he expects the club to make and while it’s not exactly a huge number, if the players are right, the club will become stronger.

But during the open window, it is just as much about allowing players to leave as it is signing new faces.

Rabbi Matondo is close to a Coventry switch but the Welshman has had that deal stall over a lack of agreement on bonuses.

Cyriel Dessers is wanted in Serie A by numerous clubs and Alex Lowry has already departed the club to sign with Wycombe Wanderers.

And now a fellow youngster is likely to follow suit.

Archie Stevens is unlikely to sign Rangers deal amid loan interest

Rangers News understands Archie Stevens is likely to leave Ibrox at the end of his current contract after failing to agree terms on a new deal.

The 19-year-old winger has not travelled to Manchester for this evening’s Europa League tie with United even to take in the surroundings in the stands.

RN understands Stevens to have loan interest from the Scottish Championship and a move could happen this month if the right fit club comes along to take him.

The talented teen had interest from Leeds United last year with the Whites keeping track of the wide man.

Brighton were among EPL clubs watching Stevens and had him scouted in a Rangers under-18s clash vs rivals Celtic.

The playmaker made his Ibrox first-team debut against Queen of the South as a 16-year-old as he came off the bench in a Viaplay Cup last-16 tie.

He has since played well with the B team but may be on his way out of the club without any more competitive appearances despite playing vs Birmingham City in pre-season with the A squad.

It comes after the attacker made it clear he was hungry for more game time.

Stevens had big plans to break into Rangers first-team

He said to RTV after his debut in 2022: “I want to perform well and continue improving as a player.

“I want to get round the other side of the building, both in training and games. I want to continue performing to a good standard and hopefully the rest will come.

“You’re always being watched, even in training. You need to treat every day the same, and have the desire and purpose to get round to the first-team side of the building.

“I’m going into my third season so I’ve done two years. I’ve enjoyed every minute and hopefully I can keep pushing on.

“I feel like one of the more experienced players in the B Team and I’m loving it.

“To get minutes for the first-team is what you want, and hopefully I can get some more if I keep working hard.”
