Every summer there is a chain reaction in the transfer market that affects every club, including Rangers.

Players refuse to cash in or sell their star assets until they have found a replacement which makes recruitment a lot easier than it is on Football Manager.

Clubs don’t want to leave transfers until the last day of the window, however, much like buying and selling a house, it can be a complicated affair.

The Rangers squad needs a lot of work with Kevin Thelwell’s appointment as sporting director set to play a key role.

Nils Koppen will already have a list of names though and Rangers’ move for Relebohile Mofokeng could be a lot easier, given the latest transfer news from South Africa.

Orlando Pirates sign Relebohile Mofokeng replacement

If Rangers were going to sell Hamza Igamane or Nicolas Raskin, you would expect them to replace them first, rather than let a key player leave and weaken the squad.

This is exactly what it looks like the Orlando Pirates have done:

"There is an exciting player who has been signed by Orlando Pirates, and soon people will be talking about him," a source told Soccer Laduma, a South African football site.

"His name is Rethabile Ramontoeli and he plays as a winger and as an attacking midfielder. He is the next Relebohile Mofokeng, that one – I promise you.

"Rethabile was one of the most exciting talents at the 2025 Pirates Cup. He was scouted by James Mothibi, a former Pirates player himself, in Bloemfontein. Since then, he's made remarkable progress in a short space of time.”

Will Mofokeng be a Rangers target again?

Mofokeng is only 20-years old himself so, it makes sense to replace him with another up and coming winger.

It is one of three positions where Rangers need to strengthen with Vaclav Cerny probably returning to Wolfsburg leaving Rabbi Matondo and Ross McCausland as the only senior options.

To compound issues, Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence are out of contract, which leaves Nedim Bajrami to potentially play out of position.

It is an area of the park that has been neglected since Steven Gerrard left Rangers with only Matondo being signed on a permanent basis.

The obvious option, if the 49ers’ takeover share issue brings extra funds, is to dig deep for Cerny and Abdallah Sima.

Throw Mofokeng into the mix and it would be a good start to the summer.
