Kris Boyd hasn't held back when discussing the woeful away form at Rangers which is heaping the pressure on Philippe Clement.

To be fair to the Rangers manager, neither is he.

Speaking after the 3-1 Scottish Premiership win over St Johnstone, a match which was overshadowed by protests and a walk-out from the Union Bears, Philippe Clement admitted he could 'understand' fan frustrations come full time.

But with Rangers recording just three away wins in 11 matches this season, Kris Boyd has explained why the Rangers support are well within their right to vent their frustrations.

The former Ibrox hitman has also afforded the current Ibrox manager a simply piece of advice if hopes to salvage his reputation amongst fans.

Kris Boyd sympathises with Rangers fans

"There is no doubt there is," said Boyd when asked about a 'disconnect' at the club on Sky Sports.

"I think a lot of fans probably had a go at the Union Bears as well. There's definitely disconnect there.

"Rangers have won the game today. It's something to build on.

"It gives them an opportunity to go and get another home win on Wednesday night against Aberdeen.

"But the key thing for Rangers is that away form. That needs to improve.

"They've absolutely no chance of winning the league but to get that connection back you need to start winning games away from home.

"The fans spend a lot of money and they expect better.

"Everybody can say what they want, you don't want to see it but you can say what you want if you have had enough."

Kris Boyd on how Philippe Clement can turn it around

Kris Boyd has also been offering up the panacea to Rangers' situation and for the ex-Ibrox hitman it's really quite simple.

The team has to start winning games of football away from home.

Rangers' home record has seen the team take 31 points from a possible 33 so far this season, the only black mark a 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

But on the road the club's abysmal record of 13 points from a possible 33 has Rangers fans calling for the manager's head.

With the issues at Rangers running much deeper than this season's inability to win on the road, Boyd has pointed to years of 'decline' as being at the heart of the issue.

"Win games of football," said Boyd, when asked how Rangers can turn things around.

"It sounds simple. There's a lot of key factors that has to happen to allow that to take place.

"But I think Rangers fans have looked at it from a period of time now when you go back to winning the league.

"There has been a decline since. I know there's been a European Final in there after that but there has been a decline.

"I think the standard of player, that's dropped off.

"But Rangers need to find a way of better recruitment and start winning games of football because (fans) won't accept where they are right now, that's for sure."
