Europa League football returns for Rangers as they begin their league phase campaign in Sweden against high-flying Malmo.

Philippe Clement will understand this is arguably the most winnable away fixture Gers will play amid a fairly tough Europa League draw for the Govan giants.

Rangers will play eight different teams as part of the new format including the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

So while Malmo are in good form and have been branded Scottish football’s European ‘bogey team’ of late, Rangers need to be targeting three points.

Drawing the game wouldn’t be the worst start but even that would set the team back a bit in their quest to reach at least the knockout play-off stage.

Below, Rangers News has everything you need to know about the Malmo clash including how to watch on TV, the latest team news, an injury round-up plus the appointed officials.

Rangers team & injury news

Philippe Clement arrived in Sweden on Wednesday with his squad and spoke to the press ahead of the European encounter.

He confirmed that luckless winger Oscar Cortes will be sidelined for “several weeks” after suffering a bad knock in training this week.

Meanwhile, Brazilian left-back Jefte is suspended after receiving a red card in the defeat to Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden in August.

But the rest of the squad from the win over Dundee in the cup will be available. That means Danilo, Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz will remain out.

Referee & VAR

The officials for Malmo vs Rangers have been confirmed by UEFA. The on-field referee will be Luís Miguel Branco Godinho from Portugal and his assistants will be Rui Miguel Martins Teixeira and Pedro Miguel Almeida Mota.

Tiago Bruno Lopes Martins will be the VAR while Jonas Hedegaard Hansen from Denmark has been confirmed as the AVAR.
