McCann's path to Rangers dugout came at expense of another Kilmarnock role

Neil McCann has given up his comfortable punditry roles for the time being to roll the sleeves up and get to work at Rangers.
The former Gers winger was one of the former players chosen by Barry Ferguson to be part of his interim backroom team, along with Billy Dodds and Allan McGregor.
It’s a Rangers management team with over 40 trophies, 1180 appearances and 120 goals as well as good coaching experience between them.
Ferguson explained his decision as he wanted big characters who would get in the dressing room and lift the players. And they certainly seemed to have an impact at 2-0 down to Kilmarnock last night, eventually winning 4-2.
McCann has been doing a lot of work as a pundit for the likes of BBC and Sky Sports but is now right in the firing line, away from the comfort of a studio.
McCann was supposed to be on Kilmarnock vs Rangers commentary
The former speedy winger was in the away dugout at Rugby Park last night. It was a night fraught with tension as a dire first half display saw the team go 2-0 down before a second half renaissance.
It could have been a lot more comfortable for him if he’d stuck to the original plan.
McCann was supposed to be on co-comms for Sky Sports, who were broadcasting the match, alongside Ian Crocker.
In his absence, Chris Sutton stepped forward.
Crocker said during the match: “Neil McCann, who was due to be alongside me tonight, in the dugout.
“Anything to get out of that…”
Sutton joked: “”I was going to ask him the Rangers team…”
Pace demanded in Rangers training
The new coaching team have already been seen bringing about a noticeable difference to training.
Clips from sessions show Dodds demanding things done quickly as he and McCann got stuck in, with Ferguson taking on more of a supervisory role.
Fans will have loved to have seen it given how slow and ponderous some games have been and a change was definitely in evidence in the second half last night.
