Premier League star makes promises to Rangers legend which will make Ibrox icon smirk
Today at 12:00 PM
Aston Villa star and boyhood Celtic fan John McGinn might not have too many fans at Rangers.
And the on-form Scotland international, 30, might have even less after he usurped the legendary Ally McCoist as Scotland's fifth all-time top scorer.
Rangers legend McCoist netted 19 goals in 61 appearances for the Scotland international team during his famous heyday as a poacher.
But John McGinn has now nudged in front of the Rangers hero with his 20th international goal for Scotland in the 2-1 win over Poland.
John McGinn overtakes Ally McCoist
John McGinn had only just drawn level with Ally McCoist in the 2-1 victory over Croatia at Hampden.
That late winner sparked Scotland's UEFA Nations League knockout hopes and McGinn continued the form into the clash against Poland in Warsaw.
Opening the scoring just minutes into the clash, it was a moment to remember for McGinn who had a cheeky response to supporters when asked about the goal.
Claiming that he'll be sure to rub it into Rangers legend Coisty when he sees him at Villa Park, McGinn claims the fact he's overtaken the legendary Ibrox hitman is 'a bit mad'.
The goal wasn't enough to help secure Scottish progression to the knockout round of the UEFA Nations League.
Despite Rangers star John Souttar teeing up Andy Robertson for an injury time Scotland winner, Portugal's 1-1 draw with Croatia meant Scotland finished third in their group.
Celtic fan promises to 'rub it in' to Rangers legend
"It's mad," McGinn told BBC Sport. "My dad was over at the game tonight.
"He's not one for emotional messages or anything but he sent a nice text saying it's surreal seeing his boy in the top five all-time scorers for Scotland, which is a bit mad.
"I'm sure I'll wind Ally McCoist up the next time he's commentating on a Villa game but for us the most thing was getting the win.
"We've been through a right enough spell. We've taken a lot of criticism which has been deserved for the most part.
"Personally, a long goal drought, club and country, but managed to get two in two and back on scoring form and back to winning ways for us."
