Rangers deal could be ripped up as Gers target former Premier League international - reports

Rangers are counting the cost of several key injuries at the heart of their defence as Philippe Clement struggles to get things right on the road in Scotland.
The Gers have been hugely impacted by injuries in the club's backline with Jack Butland, James Tavernier, John Souttar, Leon Balogun, Dujon Sterling and Neraysho Kasanwirjo all sidelined.
As a result, new Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart admits the club are in 'active discussions' over the signing of a new defender as Philippe Clement pleads for new options.
And as Rangers 'make contact' over Swedish international Hjalmar Ekdal the club could be about to cut one Ibrox loan deal short to help make a deal happen.
Rangers loan deal to be cut short
That's because Feyenoord are looking to officially cut Rangers' loan deal for Neraysho Kasanwirjo short in order to send another player in their squad out on loan.
Kasanwirjo, 22, has returned to Feyenoord for treatment after sustaining an injury whilst playing of the Netherlands U21s in a friendly with England earlier in the season.
After having surgery the versatile defender is now back in Holland focusing on his recovery and Rangers reportedly still hold an interest in signing Kasanwirjo permanently.
Despite this, the National claim Feyenoord are seriously considering ripping the Neraysho Kasanwirjo Rangers loan deal up this January.
Under the current Eredivisie rules, Dutch clubs can only loan six players to foreign clubs with Feyenoord already having six, including Kasanwirjo, out on short term deals this season.
With unwanted winger Luka Ivanusec being lined up for a return to Dinamo Zagreb, Feyenoord are considering cancelling the Nana deal to sanction the Croatian's exit.
Rangers to free up Hjalmar Ekdal funds?
The news comes with Rangers actively seeking to recruit a new defender ahead of the second half of the season.
The Ibrox side have suffered in the absence of Neraysho Kasanwirjo with the injury to John Souttar also having a devastating impact.
Patrick Stewart has admitted that Rangers are in 'active discussions' over a new centre-back signing and the situation with Kasanwirjo is interesting in this context.
Rangers could both free up wages and a space in the club's squad should Kasanwirjo move on, freeing up room for Hjalmar Ekdal to make the short-term switch from Burnley.
The 26-year-old Swedish international centre-back played for the Clarets in the Premier League last season but finds himself out of favour in the Championship this campaign.
