Rangers get Premier League loan reminder as West Ham linked to £30m midfielder

Rangers have utilised the Premier League loan market to mixed results in recent seasons as the club looks for short-term solutions to add quality to the Ibrox ranks.
Amad Diallo joined Rangers on a six month January loan from Manchester United in 2022, whilst Abdallah Sima spent last season on loan at the club from Brighton.
Wolves forward Fabio Silva also had a temporary stint at Ibrox last season as the Gers fell short in the Scottish Premiership title hunt.
This January there has been plenty of chatter surrounding Rangers exploring the Premier League loan market.
But the latest transfer reports surrounding one reported target has sent a reminder to the Ibrox club as to just how competitive the loan market has become south of the border.
Rangers linked to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Of all the biggest clubs in world football, Chelsea perhaps stand most accused of hoarding young talent.
With a massive squad and a quite remarkable 13 players out loan already this season, there are murmurs that summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is next.
Rangers have been linked to a loan move for Dewsbury-Hall as the 26-year-old midfielder struggles for game time at Stamford Bridge.
Joining Chelsea from Leicester City alongside new manager Enzo Maresca in the summer, the £30m midfielder has made only five substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.
Despite starting every Europa Conference League match, Italian coach Maresca has previously admitted the midfielder has 'struggled to adapt' to less playing time at Stamford Bridge.
The only catch from a Rangers point of view however is that even when the Ibrox links emerged, it's clear there is plenty of Premier League interest in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
With Arsenal said to have been leading the pack heading into January, Leicester City, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford and Manchester United have also been mentioned.
Now, the Telegraph are reporting that West Ham are considering a loan bid for Dewsbury-Hall as they look to strengthen their midfield.
The Hammers are also said to be considering Carney Chukwuemeka, another Chelsea star who has been linked with a loan move to Rangers.
Premier League reality check for Rangers
When it comes to the sorts of finances involved in the Premier League, Rangers just cannot compete with these sorts of clubs.
Premier League sides can pay higher proportions of players wages and have a stronger bargaining position than Rangers.
For Chelsea, the best outcome is also that these players gain experience in the Premier League before coming back and making an impact for them.
The same can be said with Brighton's Evan Ferguson, who looks set to leave the AMEX on loan until the end of the season.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement knows that finances are tight at Ibrox and that's why the Gers boss pointed to Patrick Stewart when grilled on the club's January transfer business.
"That's something that Patrick will address towards you guys," said Clement when asked about new additions this January.
"He wants to give that explanation what is the plan for January.
"I think every manager feels that (they could use more players), and for sure in the situation we are.
"For the moment with injuries and everything, but there's also the situation of the club. You need to pay it also, and I'm not the one who can pay that. I don't have that money."
Loan moves have traditionally been a good way to bring in quality on a short term basis to make an immediate and tangible impact on the first team.
But with Premier League clubs now more consciously exploring this market this January, Rangers face stiffer competition that ever to strike short-term deals.
