Barry Ferguson was the perfect example of a player who could do it all; he could dominate domestically as well as be Rangers’ main man in Europe.
Unfortunately, the interim Rangers manager can’t say the same for his squad who seem incapable of turning up when the going gets tough.
With no wins in four at Ibrox things away from home don’t seem to be much better, here are your Rangers player ratings for the awful display against Dundee, despite the win.

Rangers player ratings vs Dundee
Rangers continued their abysmal domestic form and run of abject performances against Dundee in what was a far cry from the energy and passion against Celtic, make no mistake, they were very, very lucky to escape with all three points.
Dundee wasted numerous chances to put the game to bed, and they paid the price.
Jack Butland – 2
Trying to justify giving more than 1/10 is a hard task given the nature of Dundee’s second and crucial goal just after Rangers missed the chance to level.
If he isn’t already, Butland really needs to see a sports psychologist about some of the goals he is conceding.
Amateur is unkind to those not getting paid tens of thousands of pounds a week.
Continues to struggle timing when to cover his defence and was lucky not to receive a red card.
Ridvan Yilmaz – 3
Given and opportunity to start ahead of Jefte, who returned after personal issues stopped him playing against Celtic, but did little to suggest he will keep his place.
Poor defensively and consistently gave the ball away, nearly costing his team a third goal in the first half.
James Tavernier – 3
Soft for Dundee’s first goal marking Simon Murray in a moment that set the tone for the first half.
Outmuscled and outfought with those in dark blue clearly wanting to get to every ball more.
Scored a screamer, however, what’s the point of doing that when your team is already 3-1 down and the defence has been a shambles all evening?

Leon Balogun – 3
Looked like he hadn’t played in months and that he had ice skates on his feet, such was his nervousness with the ball.
John Souttar – 3
Had an almost panicked nature to some of his defending with Dundee’s first goal coming from a corner that was conceded under no real pressure.
Could have chosen a few options but headed it out for a corner, whether this was a communication of confidence issue doesn’t really matter, it has been a regular occurrence.
Struggled all game.
Nicolas Raskin – 4
Joined in the middle by Connor Barron and Mohamed Diomande but it didn’t seem to make any difference, couldn’t influence the game in anywhere near the same level that he has recently for club and country.
As always though, work rate couldn’t be faulted, he could do with more help in front and behind him though.
Persistence paid off with the assist for Tom Lawrence.
Mohamed Diomande – 3
As with Raskin, just couldn’t get on the ball and make anything happen.
Still doesn’t seem to be switching on to the dark arts Ferguson warned about and wasn’t strong enough on a number of occasions.
Consistently gave the ball away when in good positions to build attacks.
Connor Barron – 2
Anonymous and offered little protection to the defence in the first half which saw him replaced by Bailey Rice.
Wasn’t picked for his quality on the ball but for his energy and tenacity, both of which were sadly lacking.
Dujon Sterling – 4
Had one of a few moments of quality for Rangers in the first half, unfortunately, it was preventing a one v one chance by using his pace to sweep up at the back.
One long ball from a Rangers corner and Dundee were nearly in.

Hamza Igamane – 3
Clearly a talented player, however, also clearly still has a lot to learn, especially in domestic football.
Too many touches, not physical enough.
If he doesn’t leave in the summer, there will need to be improvements if he is to be first choice.
Replaced by Danilo but it should have been his strike partner who went off.
Cyriel Dessers – 2
With Vaclav Cerny injured, the goalscoring responsibility was largely on Dessers’ shoulders.
Squandered enough chances to take the match ball home twice and it was incredible to see Danilo still sitting on the bench after an hour.
Strayed offside when he didn’t need to with a great chance to make it 2-2 and get his team back into the game.
The defence was rotten, but he was every bit as responsible for the performance.
Dessers does, what Dessers does though, however, it shouldn’t take 10 chances to score one and he remains as much of the problem as he is the solution.
Substitutes
Ianis Hagi – 3
Seemed to be on a mission to make something happen coming on at half time for Leon Balogun, just lacked the accuracy that he and his teammates needed.
Added intensity and moved the ball a lot quicker which helped with the tempo.
Bailey Rice – 3
A great game to thrown the young midfielder on in. Rice had a difficult time with Scotland Under-21s and this type of game will be a learning curve, even if it isn’t in a good way.
Jefte – 3
Brought on to replace Ridvan but there was no real improvement in quality.
Danilo – 3
Should have been on a lot earlier given that he probably would have taken one of the numerous chances that Dessers missed.
Showed the composure that others had badly missed when he teed up James Tavernier instead of going it alone.
Tom Lawrence – 5
First intelligent piece of play of the afternoon came when he cut inside to link with Danilo for Rangers second goal.
Legs might have gone, but he remains the best striker of a ball at the club as his goal for Rangers’ third showed.
Easily Rangers’ best player despite his short time on the pitch.
