Rangers don't seem to be able to go a day of this summer transfer window without some sort of madness but the latest story has taken things to another level.

Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen's biggest task isn't attracting players to play at Ibrox and improving the squad, it's moving on those who the manager doesn't want.

Clubs can be notified that Rangers are interested in listening to offers and agents can also be used, and it is the latter that has seen the latest twist in what has been a chaotic transfer window.

Is Todd Cantwell heading for the Rangers exit?

There are players who Clement will want to move on because they either spent their time last season in the treament room or sitting in the stands.

On big wages or not, that is a problem that needs to be fixed.

Then, there are players who don't fit his system or who he doesn't fully trust.

One of them appearing to be Todd Cantwell

Since arriving as Rangers manager, Clement has had several issues with Cantwell.

Some to do with performance, some to do with his behaviour on and off the pitch

An incident at full-time after the Scottish Cup final, perhaps, proving to be the final straw.

Speaking after one of the final league games of the season against Dundee, it was clear that Cantwell continues to frustrate the Gers boss:

“I was very happy with his second half, yes. That is the Todd I want to see every time. And then he makes the difference, and then he gets stats and then he’s important for this club.

“So it needs to be fire, desire, every time with and without the ball. Not only one game.”

Cantwell touted for Rangers move as agent blunders

It's fair for a manager to want his star man and key player to be performing from the first whistle and dominating games rather than waiting to go 2-0 down before they turn up.

It looks like this is exactly what Clement is looking for.

According to Football Italia, Rangers are already touting Todd Cantwell to other clubs and former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has been used as an intermediary to approach teams in Serie A.

Unfortunately, rather than messaging Lecce coach Lucca Gotti, he messaged a fans page on Instagram instead.

Cantwell isn't a must sell like Sam Lammers or Tom Lawrence

With better players either side of him and up front, you would expect his performance levels to improve too.

Arriving for just £1.5m, he is a saleable asset though and if Philippe Clement has someone more appropriate in mind, then there is money to be made.

If agents message people who can actually buy him that is.
