Rangers turned down chance to sign ex-Man Utd star who was 'fastest in Premier League'

Rangers have been on the lookout for defensive cover in the January transfer window.
So far, they have signed centre-back Rafael Fernandes on loan from Lille, but he has not been seen in action yet as Philippe Clement explained Rangers fans will wait to wait to see him.
A recent spate of injuries made strengthening in that area a necessity after John Souttar, Leon Balogun, Robin Propper and Dujon Sterling all missed games, leading to chances for youngster Clinton Nsiala.
The Gers youngster has impressed Clement, teammates and fans alike but they would still like more options to choose from.
An injury to James Tavernier also made right back an issue and the left-footed Ridvan Yilmaz had to fill in on his opposite side.
Neraysho Kasanwirjo, who can play on the right and centrally, being back at Feyenoord after a season-ending injury hasn’t helped either.
So as well as the addition of Fernandes, the club may look for someone who can play at full-back and were indeed offered someone, according to a report.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah offered to Rangers
Former Manchester United full-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah is a free agent after leaving Leverkusen in the summer and still on the lookout for a club.
Wales Online is now reporting Swansea were one of a clutch of clubs who have been offered the 27-year-old on a free transfer.
Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City are the other Championship sides along with Blackburn Rovers, although the latter have reportedly said no due to concerns around his fitness.
According to the report the same applies to Rangers, who had the same concerns, as did Feyenoord in the player’s homeland.
Fosu-Mensah has been training with Ajax to keep his fitness levels up and it’s claimed he does have a chance of winning a deal there if he impresses enough.
His injuries date back to his Manchester United days when a loan at Fulham had to be cut short due to a knee ligament problem.
After signing for Leverkusen, the same problem arose and cut his first season short and the following campaign it was a hamstring complaint that sidelined him.
Fosu-Mensah played just 23 Bundesliga games across four seasons, missing the entire last campaign through a knee injury and general fitness issues.
You can see why there would be concerns around signing him, especially with the injury situation that already exists at Ibrox.
Fosu-Mensah was ‘fastest player in Premier League’
The Dutchman played a handful of games over his time and Man United and could cover right-back, centre-back and holding midfield.
But it was when he was on loan at Fulham that he was rated as the fastest player in the Premier League, according to the Express.
Fosu-Mensah was clocked at an incredible speed of 35.32 km/h while playing for the Cottagers, before his season was curtailed by injury.
He was ahead of stars like Kyle Walker at Manchester City and Liverpool’s Mo Salah.
