Report - Rangers are transfer 'priority' for Nikola Katic with concrete interest explainer

Just as Philippe Clement starts to get extra bodies back in the forward line, Rangers are down to the bare bones in the middle of the defence.
It was an area of the squad that the manager already needed to strengthen, however, the situation has been made significantly worse by injuries to Dujon Sterling and John Souttar.
A few names have been mentioned already as potential Rangers signings with an update on the odds of Nikolas Katic returning to Ibrox.

Speaking to The Daily Record, a source close to the Bosnia international's representatives has claimed that, despite interest from elsewhere, there is only one place that the towering defender would want to go:
"We've had nothing concrete yet but we've seen some stories in the media and of course, Niko would like it a lot if he could return to Rangers," claimed the source.
"We are currently in negotiations with some clubs, one also from England. But if Rangers knock on the door, that would be the priority for Nikola. He still has 18 months remaining on his contract in Zurich. But If it is meant for him to return to Rangers, he will be there."
How would Katic fit into the current Rangers team?
Robin Propper has shown that he is composed in possession and is an accomplished passer of the ball.
Where the Dutchman is weak, Katic is strong, and it could provide the exact sort of balance that a centre-half paring should have.
Domestically, where a lack of physicality has cost Rangers at times, Katic is a known quantity as explained by Craig Moore.
At a time when money is tight and risks need to be kept to a minimum, it would make sense to bring someone like the 28-year old back to the club.
Once everyone is fit, he would be able to play alongside Propper or John Souttar and could replace the role that Leon Balogun currently plays, only with better availability.
