As Rangers' transfer window rushed to a close, the club had some big decision to make in the final third.

The Gers had already closed in on a loan-to-buy deal for Feyenoord defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo with attentions firmly focused on adding a new playmaker and a left-winger.

The less said about the club's doomed pursuit of an experienced number six the better.

As the window bottlenecked, Rangers had two firm targets in their sights and looked to be closing in on deals to bring both Nedim Bajrami and Samuel Edozie to Ibrox.

But when the goalposts moved, so did the club's transfer prospects, and only the Albanian arrived in Glasgow.

After finally striking a deal elsewhere, Samuel Edozie is doing his best to make sure Rangers regret it.

Samuel Edozie to Rangers deal collapsed

Rangers pursuit of a left-winger to replace Abdallah Sima has been highly documented this summer.

With the Ibrox club's failure to reach the Champions League, Brighton loanee Sima headed out on a short term deal to Ligue 1 outfit FC Brest.

Impressing already on Champions League duties, it appears Brighton made a shrewd choice.

But Rangers' failed pursuit of Samuel Edozie – who Southampton signed in a £10m from Manchester City two years ago (Daily Mail) – has come into stronger focus these last few weeks.

With Oscar Cortes struggling to keep himself fit, Nedim Bajrami has been employed off the left instead of his normal 'number ten' position.

After Sassuolo changed the terms of Bajrami's summer exit – Rangers initially hoping to strike a loan-to-buy – it appears the Ibrox side had a choice to make.

Spending £3.6m to bring Bajrami to Rangers permanently, the Albanian's versatility saw a deal for Edozie collapse.

Southampton boss Russell Martin was left 'gutted' for the winger as a result.

But with Edozie's agents quickly bringing together a short-term deal at Belgian side Anderlecht, Scottish football's loss is the Pro League's gain.

Rangers target off the mark in Belgium

Samuel Edozie is officially off the mark for Anderlecht after scoring in the Belgian club's 1-1 draw with Dender over the weekend.

This comes after Edozie started Anderlecht's 2-1 Europa League opening dayvictory over Ferencvaros at Ibrox.

The winger drifted in off the left hand side of the pitch before firing a shot in low past the stranded Dender goalie.

It marks what's been a bright start for the 21-year-old in Belgium as the Saints winger quickly dusts off that Rangers disappointment to make his mark on the continent.

But as for Rangers, the Ibrox side continue to look short in the wide areas and could come up against some big challenges before the January transfer window.

Crocked duo Oscar Cortes and Rabbi Matondo are the only real options at left-wing, whilst Vaclav Cerny and Ross McCausland are battling it out for opportunities on the right-hand side.

The fact that Dujon Sterling continues to be utilised on the flanks is testament to Rangers' lack of quality wide options in the squad.

With the left-wing an area which is expected to be reinforced in January, could Rangers revisit a move for Morgan Whittaker after the attacker's comment this week?
