As players get towards the end of their playing careers most of them start to think about either a career in the dugout or a career behind a microphone with ex-Rangers starts always in demand.

Some are natural communicators, blessed with personality, the ability to provide incisive and articulate opinion on controversial incidents as well as tactical insight that the layman won't have seen.

One former Ibrox hero who has taken to TV like a duck to water is Scott Arfield, currently still producing the goods and scoring goals for Falkirk and leading their chase for automatic promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

After covering Rangers win over Fenerbahce for TNT Sports, where he was full of praise for Connor Barron, Arfield has been on BBC Scotland, this time giving a quick fire run interview from Kenny MacIntyre.

Scott Arfield named his next Rangers manager

Fielding questions over a couple of minutes, this is how the interview went:

MacIntyre: Best manager you've played under?

Arfield: A mix of them all. Steven Gerrard was amazing. Sean Dyche got a lot, Yogi Hughes was amazing and I'm really, really enjoying the way John McGlynn works the now so, I can't give you a quick fire with that the now Kenny boy.

Best player you've played with?

I can give you an answer for that, Russell Latapy.

Best player you've played against?

Eden Hazard.

Most intelligent player you've played with?

Off the pitch, surprisingly, Allan McGregor.

Who should be the next permanent Rangers manager?

Barry Ferguson's done himself no harm, in 10 years time…Scott Arfield.

Arfield also covered other questions like, who would win in a fight between John Hughes and Sean Dyche, a heavyweight battle that would make decent pay per view money.

Should Rangers have re-signed Scott Arfield?

Arfield has shown that, at 36-years old, there is still life in the old dog yet.

Towards the end of his time at Rangers, he spent more time being used off the bench but still chipped in with a solid number of goals at the end of the season, nearly making double figures.

With five goals in six appearances in the Championship so far, Arfield has been the perfect January signing for Falkirk.

Not only is he the perfect character for dressing rooms, but he is a leader too in terms of how he goes about his business.

There won't be anyone more experienced in the Championship either in terms of Premier League and international appearances.

Arfield won't be on big money, he just wants to play football, and given the shortage of midfielders at Rangers, he could have been a useful addition.

Not every signing has to be a young, project player, some of them have to be able to teach the young ones how it should be done and few are better than Arfield.
