Scott Arfield has said if Vaclav Cerny really wants to stay at Rangers, they must cough up the £5.5m to sign the Czech Republic international.
Cerny has been a revelation for Rangers this season having scored 17 goals and provided seven assists from the right wing.
He’s been one of the few positives for Rangers amid a dreary season that threatens to be another trophy-less one if the club can’t win the Europa League.
Barry Ferguson has transformed Cerny’s game and attention is now turning to whether Rangers can sign him permanently or not from Wolfsburg in the summer.
One outlet claims Rangers have the option to buy Cerny for £5.5m. However, a rival publication reports Rangers have no such option.
Arfield pleads with Rangers to sign Vaclav Cerny
For Arfield, if indeed the £5.5m buy option exists and Rangers can trigger it before the end of May, it’s a no brainer to chase Cerny’s signature full-time.
Writing for the Daily Record, Arfield said: “One call Rangers do really have to be getting on with is a decision on Vaclav Cerny's future.
“They can land the Czech winger for £5.5m but only if they find the funds before the end of May – when his parent club Wolfsburg can offer up his services to a 10-strong list of rival suitors.
“For me, it's a no brainer. Sign him now. Five million quid is certainly no small change but Rangers have paid a hefty price previously for not splashing out on quality wide men. You know what they say, pay cheap pay twice.
“With Cerny, Rangers know they will be getting a player who can cope with the pressure levels in Glasgow.”
