'The most important thing...': Ibrox-bound Lyall Cameron shares his plan for taking on Rangers in Dundee clash

As Dundee prepare to host Barry Ferguson’s Rangers on the other side of the March international break, Lyall Cameron finds himself in a rather rarified position.
A footballer bound for Ibrox, yet representing his future employers at Dens Park.
Technical director Nils Koppen labelled Lyall Cameron a ‘hugely important’ addition for Rangers. Not only in the near future but for the long-term too, the blue side of Glasgow set to become home to a 22-year-old midfielder who, like Connor Barron behind him, arrives having established himself as one of the most exciting homegrown talents in Scotland.
Back in February, after Rangers confirmed the signing of Lyall Cameron on a pre-contract arrangement, former boss Philippe Clement spoke out about the ‘bad sign’ he was desperate not to see from the Scottish Under-21 international.
Cameron, he said, had to continue giving every ounce of blood, sweat and tears for Dundee. It is that sort of commitment Clement’s successor – Barry Ferguson – will be looking out for too when Rangers face off against Tony Docherty’s relegation-threatened side on Saturday March 29th.

As far as Cameron is concerned, the only thing that matters right now is that Dundee remain a top-flight club for 2025/26.
While he prepares to face his future employers, Cameron is keen to go up against his current employers next season in a Rangers shirt too. That will mean he has done his job, with Dundee currently 11th and stuck in the relegation play-off spot.
"I'll just take it as it comes," Cameron tells The Courier. "Obviously, it's going to be a different situation because it's the club I'm moving to at the end of the season. So, I'll just take it as it comes.
"My main focus right now is here and getting us out of this predicament that we've put ourselves in. That's all I can do.
"That's the most important thing for me just now. You need to look at every game as it comes. We feel like a lot of them are winnable. We feel like we've been underperforming in the last couple of weeks. We've just not been getting the rub of the green.”
Barry Ferguson is a Cameron fan while relegation-threatened Dundee beat rivals
On a weekend in which Hamza Igamane fired Rangers past Old Firm rivals Celtic with a ‘phenomenal’ 88th minute strike, Lyall Cameron saw what would have been an 11th goal of the season ruled out by VAR in a pulsating Dundee derby.
Fortunately, thanks in part to his usual drive and hustle in midfield, Dundee would pick up three valuable points at Tannadice as well as the bragging rights.
"Even on Sunday, when the two goals are called offside, we're just not quite getting the luck,” he adds. “Thankfully, we managed to hold on.
"Hopefully, that can turn things and with the boys coming back from injury. I am confident we will have a good end to the season.”
The return of a legendary captain and a Premiership-winning midfielder to Ibrox has certainly resonated with the current crop of midfielders. Connor Barron, Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande have all been in top form of late under interim boss Barry Ferguson.
Interestingly, Ferguson described Rangers signing Lyall Cameron as ‘brilliant’ business six weeks ago. Whether the former is still around when the latter arrives, only time will tell.
The 47-year-old has already seen off Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers.
But, as Andy Halliday explains, Ferguson is still to prove he can solve Rangers’ low-block issues against teams of Dundee’s stature.
