Rangers closed the transfer window with a couple of positions still needing to be addressed by Philippe Clement.

One of those was on the wing after Michael Beale left the squad short of quality and Scott Wright's exit saw the numbers also reduced for the manager on deadline day.

An attempt to sign Samuel Edozie fell at the last hurdle, however, by ending the Ianis Hagi saga, Rangers have an immediate upgrade with The Daily Record reporting who is to thank.

What made Rangers make Ianis Hagi about turn?

The decision to restore Hagi to the first team is a mutual one, but Clement was pretty resolute in his stance only a few weeks ago:

"No, I cannot say anything now because there is not really a development for the moment."

"We spoke about that months ago, really open and honest with his agent also that we don't see him to become the next No10 for Rangers for the next couple of years and to look out for other opportunities.

"So that story stays the same and for sure, with (Nedim) Bajrami now in the building, you have this situation."

Clement always spoke as if he saw Hagi filling the number 10 role currently occupied and that has Tom Lawrence bang in form.

For club and country, Hagi has consistently displayed his best football playing off the right.

An area of the park where the Gers boss could do with competition for.

That Hagi is two-footed and is comfortable on either side is also a plus.

Despite the stand off amid Hagi's pleas to play for Rangers, an intervention from senior players is claimed by the Record to have been the difference.

Rangers immediately stronger with Ianis Hagi return

At 25-years old, Hagi still has his prime years ahead of him.

Things maybe didn't quite go to plan in La Liga with Deportivo Alaves but with over 40 caps and multiple games in Europe, he is another leader in the group.

Having captained his country, Hagi could be a huge asset in the dressing room.

The players will have recognised this and his qualities as a player too.

No disrespect to Cole McKinnon or Kieran Dowell intended, but whose name on the bench inspires more confidence – theirs, or Hagi's?

Likewise for opposition players if they see Hagi coming off the bench.

He has never given anything less than 100%, even under Beale when he was restricted to appearances against teams like Morton in the early rounds of the cup.

All he wanted to do was play for Rangers and he is getting his wish.

As he said himself, he's proven that he can contribute.

Hopefully, Hagi feels that he has a point to prove with Rangers and Philippe Clemwnt the ones who benefit.

With the senior players to thank if he does.
