Philippe Clement has been running out of players who are capable of making a difference for Rangers at the sharp end of the pitch.
Just as the manager started to get more options in his squad, Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo were back in the treatment room before it even felt like they had left it.
Over the next five games, one moment of magic could be all it takes for Philippe Clement and he will now be able to call on one playmaker who should be desperate to make an impact for Rangers.
Rangers return on the cards for Alex Lowry?
Last season was a write off for Alex Lowry.
An injury suffered in pre-season training saw him need to build up fitness with the B team.
After being handed the armband and looking like a new player, he was the victim of an horrendous tackle that all but ended his season.
The tragic passing of his mother in the spring making it a year that Lowry would just want to see the back of.
It was easy to forgive him for not putting football first.
This year saw a fresh start and a loan move to Hearts looked like the perfect chance to showcase his talents.
After flitting in and out of Steven Naismith's line-up after impressing when he first moved, it became clear that the Jambo's boss was playing a system that just didn't suit the Rangers academy product, with Lowry getting a glowing reference once his loan deal was cut short:
"I’ve no doubt he’ll go on to become a top player.
“He’s a great boy, we thank him for all his efforts at Hearts and wish him well for the future."
Philippe Clement has yet to work with Lowry and was frustrated when it emerged that the 20-year old was reporting back at Auchenhowie with an injury:
“Alex Lowry is a talented player – he developed away on loan and we are disappointed he is injured.
“It is difficult for him to get minutes here – so it is not an ideal situation.”
Rangers need the creativity that Lowry can offer
The season might be coming to a close, however, Sky Sports latest footage from the training ground has shown Alex Lowry in full training with the first-team.
The Scotland youth cap will be short of minutes, however, he offers a versatility in most of the midfield and attacking options that few other players possess.
What Lowry also has, which might impress Clement, is that he has a forwad thinking mindset.
He's never been one to play square passes for the sake of it or turn back towards his own goal.
It's easy to forget just how impressive when he brokethrough under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and return to that level of form could earn him a promortion for next season.
With doubts about the Ibrox futures of Tom Lawrence, Sam Lammers, Kieran Dowell and Ianis Hagi, there couldn't be a better time for Lowry to stick his hand up and show that he can be the player to keep Todd Cantwell on his toes.
