The Rangers transfer saga of the summer already seems to be involving James Tavernier with the captain's future a source of daily discussion.
Reports have linked the skipper with a move away from Ibrox and to complete a reunion with Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia, speculation surrounding Connor Goldson has gone quiet though.
Speaking on the Heart and Hand's daily update for the 26th of June, David Edgar has provided the latest news on James Tavernier and whether or not he thinks he will be at Rangers next season.
Rangers exit on the cards for James Tavernier
Towards the end of the season Tavernier was asked about the rumours concerning a potential move after Philippe Clement backed him and his vice-captain to be in his squad and turning out at Ibrox next season:
“It’s obviously unbelievable that you have the backing from the manager but I think the speculation has been going on for about a year now.
“It’s football, there’s always going to be speculation. To have the backing of my manager is really important, but I’m a Rangers player and I’m going to continue working hard for the team.
“You’ve got to try and push yourself and it’s always nice to have that speculation but again, it’s only speculation. I’m contracted to Rangers and I’m fully committed to the job in hand.”
The situation might not entirely be in his own hands.
Should a suitable offer be put on Nils Koppen's desk, he would be unlikely to think twice about cashing in on a player who will be 33 in the early stages of next season and who has been under pressure in recent seasons.
The Saudi window doesn't open for several days yet so it will be interesting to see if Gerrard's recommendation goes as far as a bid being made.
Tavernier tipped for move to Saudi Arabia
Speaking on the daily update, Edgar clarified the captain's situation:
"If you were to ask me, I don't think Tavernier will be playing football at Rangers next season.
"I think Tav will leave this summer, and I think it's interesting that the Saudi transfer window doesn't open until a week in, certainly in July.
"And then you might see movement with him."
Heart and Hand are a recognised media outlet who have access to the club and are frequently used to relay information to the support.
Rumours are frequently put to bed by the fan media outlet and yet there has never been anything denying the links to Saudi for Tavernier and Goldson.
It might just be his opinion, however, Edgar will be more informed than most of the support as to whether or not Tavernier will be at the club next season and if there could be bids about to be made.
