Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny has had a challenging time on UEFA Nations League duties with the Czech Republic this fortnight.

After bouncing back from a string of poor misses with a double for Rangers in the Premiership win over St Johnstone, Cerny was rated the worst player as the Czechs defeated Albania 2-0.

The UEFA Nations League clash with Ukraine in Poland would then present a chance for Vaclav Cerny to prove his doubters wrong in Czechia.

And the Rangers winger certainly did so as Cerny was heavily involved in the Czech Republic's 1-1 draw with Ukraine in Wroclaw.

Vaclav Cerny redemption for Czechia

Vaclav Cerny was a menace for the Ukrainian defence in the first half of the draw in Poland, with the Rangers winger heavily involved for the Czech Republic.

As reported by Aktulane, Vaclav Cerny had a 'fierce shot' that was deflected by the Ukrainian goalkeeper after 10 minutes.

Minutes later it was the Gers star's one-footedness that impacted the side, with an 'inaccurate pass' from Cerny's right foot failing to find a teammate.

The 'active' Vaclav Cerny then swung a left-footed shot over the bar after trying to catch the Ukrainian goalkeeper off his line.

As reported by Fotbal, Cerny 'caused a commotion' in the Ukraine box when he flashed an opportunity just wide and it was Vaclav's corner from which Lukas Serv scored his first international goal.

The Viktoria Plzen star's wild celebration showed just how much it meant to the midfielder.

This was just the start of the Gers star's contribution in the first half, but a lack of 'understanding' between the winger and teammate Lukas Provod prevented the ex-Slavia star being slipped in.

The winger then thought he had his second assist of the game, Cerny's cross into the Ukraine penalty area being flicked on and turned in by Martin Vitik only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Rangers winger sub 'broke up' game

Only five minutes into the second period disaster struck when Czech attacker Ladislav Krejci was adjudged to have handled the ball.

With Artem Dovbyk dispatching the chance, Czech coach Ivan Hasek said the penalty award is a decision which is 'sad for football' come full time (Sport).

Cerny was eventually subbed off in the 58th minute with Fotbal claiming that the 'Czech game lacked movement and accuracy' at the time.

But Sport report that the Czech's good play was 'broken up by substitutions' with the game eventually petering out to a 1-1 draw.

The result has Czechia in the driving seat heading into the final two UEFA Nations League fixtures, topping the League B Group 1 on seven points.

But only three points separate top from bottom with Georgia (six), Albania (six) and Ukraine (four) completing the rankings.

Ibrox winger Vaclav Cerny, 26, now has 20 caps for the Czech Republic since making his debut against Germany in November 2020, scoring six goals.
