
When Rangers were fined by UEFA a whopping nine times totalling £117k in just one season

Rangers have been hammered by UEFA in recent days for a banner displayed against Fenerbahce in the Europa League at Ibrox.
UEFA imposed a suspended stadium closure punishment as a result, as well as dishing out a hefty €30,000 fine for the Govan giants.
Rangers accepted the charges but came out swinging for the fans who were responsible, promising that lifetime bans will be served for the offenders.
It got us at Rangers News thinking about the 2021/22 season when Rangers went on a remarkable run to the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Fans will also remember the number of times – nine in total – UEFA fined Rangers over the course of that season for a number of offences.
We’ve had a look at them all below with the fines exceeding £100k.

€5.25k fine vs Brondby
Steven Gerrard had just days of his managerial reign at Rangers to go when the Ibrox side faced Brondby in the Europa League group stage.
The Light Blues earned a 1-1 draw as Ianis Hagi’s second-half equaliser sealed a decent point for Rangers in Denmark.
Around a month after the game, UEFA fined Rangers for the 'lighting and throwing of an object' by a fan during the clash at the Brøndby Stadium.
€6k fine vs Sparta Prague
With Giovanni van Bronckhorst now in charge, Rangers were closing in on qualifying for the knockout play-off stage of the Europa League that season.
In matchday five out of six, an Alfredo Morelos double sealed a vital three points for Rangers against Czech side Sparta Prague.
But the win was soured when UEFA fined Rangers for the 'throwing of objects' during the victory.
€19.25k fine vs Lyon
Rangers have found out over the years that UEFA absolutely hate fireworks and the use of pyrotechnic devices inside stadiums.
So when Gers fans produced a pyro display titled ‘Festival of Lights’ at the Groupama Stadium in December 2021, a fine was always heading the club’s way.
Rangers drew the game 1-1 while UEFA, afterwards, fined the Ibrox giants €19,250 for the lighting of fireworks.
€5k fine vs Borussia Dortmund
Rangers advanced to the knockout round play-offs and were drawn against the might of German giants Borussia Dortmund.
After winning the first leg 4-2 at the Westfalenstadion, Van Bronckhorst’s men secured a 2-2 draw in Glasgow to progress to the last 16.
Soon afterwards, UEFA handed Rangers a €5k fine for the post-match encroachment of children onto the pitch.
€35k fine vs Red Star Belgrade
In the last 16, Rangers were pitted against Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade and managed to win the Ibrox first leg comfortably by three goals to nil.
Rangers were expected to go through but the intimidating atmosphere of the Rajko Mitic Stadium made it a tough evening for them.
Red Star won 2-1 on the night but Rangers’ work in the first leg was enough to see them into the quarter-finals, alongside a whopping €35k UEFA punishment for the throwing of objects and acts of damage.
€54.25k fines vs Braga
Was the quarter-final stage going to be a step too far for Rangers? It didn’t start well as they lost 1-0 in Portugal to Braga at the unique Estádio Municipal de Braga.
Rangers fans were fully armed with fireworks and pyro that night, as well as being blamed for delaying the kick-off time.
As such, UEFA hammered Rangers with their biggest fine of the 2021/22 season totalling €46,250.
Then in the second leg at Ibrox – which Rangers won 3-1 to reach the semi-final stage – fans were accused of the blocking of public passageways. For that, a separate €8k punishment.
€11,500 fines vs RB Leipzig
The fines just kept on coming the deeper Rangers progressed in the Europa League. In the first leg of the semi-final in Germany, more fireworks were present in the away end.
RB Leipzig won 1-0 on the night as Rangers gave themselves work to do in the second leg at Ibrox, which of course they navigated successfully.
It was a €3,750 fine for the fireworks at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig, with a further €7,750 punishment for the same offence at Ibrox, as well as being charged for the throwing of objects.
