Ruben Selles Unpacks 'Difficult' Game For Reading At Bolton Wanderers

A horrid week for Reading was capped off by a 5-2 defeat in Greater Manchester.

After another difficult week for everyone involved with Reading Football Club, Ruben Selles and his team had to pick their selves up again to take on Bolton Wanderers at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

The home side dominated the first half, going into half time 4-1 up with a goal from Josh Sheehan and a hat-trick from Dion Charles. Ben Elliott scored for the Royals.

Reading had a much better second half with Sam Smith scoring a penalty to make it 4-2. The Royals had other chances but the home side extended their lead with Kyle Dempsey making it 5-2.

A tough day in the office but it's all about sticking together and supporting the side as much as we can. Here is what Selles had to say after the game, he spoke to the Reading Chronicle.

Selles on the game

"We knew it would be a difficult game. In the first half we were competitive and conceded two penalties and a direct free-kick. We had some key moments to go 2-1 and 3-2 and then things turned against us pretty quickly.

"For the second half we wanted to continue building because we knew difficult moments would come and we know the situation. The boys gave everything to me, so I am proud of the effort. Moments we need to be better, but we will keep going for this club."

Selles on penalties

"They were soft but it won't change it, so I won't have much to say on it."

Selles on Dorsett injury

"It looks uncomfortable. Let's see but it looks like he will be out for some period of time."

Selles on replacements

"We don't have many players because we haven't been able to replace anyone we lost. Kelvin Abrefa made a fantastic impact on the game today and he knows we have been waiting for that performance to put himself in the way to support the team.

"There is a really good player but we needed to see a performance like today. He has been training really well so he can replace Jeriel. We have Andre [Garcia] at 16 who can step into the team. We will manage the options we have."

Selles on Ben Elliott

"We twisted the game a little bit in possession to not have the problems we had in creating chances last week or break the pressure against Leyton Orient. We built in different ways to create a little bit of space for him, and I think it was clear that it was working.

"Ben got the benefit because when he can get the ball in those spaces, he is a better player. We can build on some moments from today."

Selles on the impact of the takeover falling through

"We came here trying to forget. You can never forget where you are. It was a game of football, and we had moments we should take. We know the situation and we are not going to use it as an excuse.

"We have been there before, and the circle is repeating. The support to this team in terms of players and staff is non-existent from the club and that is the reality. There will be a moment where we cannot cope but it was not a point why we didn't win today."
