Feyenoord manager Brian Priske has taken a small swipe at Southampton, insisting that they didn't treat goalkeeper Justin Bijlow well.

1908.nl cover comments from the Feyenoord manager today in which he admits he was left feeling sorry for the goalkeeper after his summer transfer debacle.

For those that don't know, Bijlow was on the verge of joining Southampton at the end of the transfer window after the two sides agreed a deal for him.

He spent a weekend saying goodbye to the Dutch club before travelling to Southampton for a medical and to finalise the move.

The whole deal came crashing down during that medical, though, with Bijlow revealing on social media that he and Southampton's medical department had disagreed over the treatment of a previous injury.

It was later revealed that the Saints were unhappy with two wrist fractures suffered by Bijlow since 2022, which have seen him miss 27 games for club and country and spend 121 days out of action.

Therefore, they cancelled the move, instead electing to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal in a big-money move. That itself caused eyebrows to be raised at Feyenoord, who made it clear they think Southampton used a failed medical to cancel Bijlow just so they could sign Ramsdale.

Now Priske has continued to stoke the fire, insisting that Bijlow was unfairly treated by the new Premier League side.

“I was disappointed for Justin," he said.

"I think he was not treated well by Southampton in that process. I think what happened there is not very correct.

"We will of course welcome him with open arms when he returns. He is a real Feyenoord player, and he is just as good a part of the selection as he was before. Nothing has changed. It is up to him to compete with Timon in this moment.”
