Southampton fell to a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday and it was their second hard-fought defeat in a row, following their 3-1 loss to Manchester United in midweek.

It’s clear that Ivan Juric’s side don’t lack effort. Potentially, signings in January can give them a chance to survive in the Premier League.

Attempts to bolster the side are ongoing already and O Jogo report a Southampton transfer ‘spy’ was present at a game in Portugal over the weekend.

Officials from the South Coast club were watching Gil Vicente take on Porto at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos, as the Portuguese giants fell to a 3-1 defeat.

It isn’t clear who Southampton are keen on, but the likes of Manchester United, Marseille, Bologna and Mallorca were also watching the game from the stands. A total of 16 clubs viewed the tie.

Galeno, Samu Aghehova, Nico Gonzalez and defender Nehuen Perez all featured for Porto, but the report specifically mentions Gil Vicente’s Sandro Cruz, who did well at left-back.

Whether he was a target for Southampton’s scouting mission or not remains to be seen but emissaries from the Angolan Football Federation were there watching him.
