Stoke City have parted company with Steven Schumacher, as confirmed by their official club website.

Stoke City are in the hunt for a new manager after deciding to cut ties with the former Plymouth Argyle man. They were beaten 1-0 away at newly promoted Oxford United over the weekend.

Schumacher, 40, made the switch to the Bet365 Stadium in December last year and kept the Potters in the Championship with ease last season. They are currently sat in 13th place in the table after two wins from their first five fixtures of this campaign.

However, they have made the decision to make a managerial change and Mark Hughes, Chris Cohen, Peter Cavanagh and Elliot Turner have also left. Will Morris and Ryan Shawcross have been placed in interim charge until a permanent successor is found.

Here is a look at three candidates who Stoke City should consider for their vacancy…

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

David Moyes

The Scotsman is available following his exit from West Ham and could see the Stoke City job as an opportunity to get back into the dugout. He is a vastly experienced manager and has overseen 1,150 games so far in his career.

Moyes, who is 61, started out at Preston North End and has since gone on to have spells at Everton, Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland. He won the Europa Conference League with the Hammers in 2023 after they beat Fiorentina in the final in Prague.

Brian Barry-Murphy

He has spent the past two years working with Manchester City’s Elite Academy Development Squad but cut ties with the Premier League champions in the summer. The Irishman is now considering his next month and is an option for the Potters if they want to go for a more left-field approach.

He will have learnt a lot from working in the same environment as Pep Guardiola. The 46-year-old is a bright coach and could work well with Stoke City’s young squad as they look to rise up the table and compete for the play-offs.

Frank Lampard

Could he be handed a route back into the game in Staffordshire? Lampard guided Derby County to the play-off final back in 2019 before leaving for Chelsea.

His two most recent stints at Stamford Bridge and then Everton didn’t work out in the end and he has a point to prove now. The 46-year-old has been out of work for over 12 months now and may need to drop into the Football League or go abroad for his next opportunity.

Stoke City are back in action this Friday at home to Hull City as they look to bounce back from their defeat to Oxford United. They then face Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Swansea City before the next international break.
