Blackburn Rovers and QPR are among those set to miss out as Jerry Yates nears a loan move to Derby County, as per Football Insider.

Blackburn Rovers, QPR and Derby County will all be battling it out in the Championship next season.

Rovers and the Rs will be keen to make notable strides up the table after fighting against relegation last time around, while the Rams are looking to announce themselves back on the second-tier stage in style after winning promotion from League One.

Now though, before they all go head to head on the pitch, it seems they’ve been battling in the transfer market.

Writing on X, Football Insider claims that Derby County are set to clinch the loan signing of Swansea City striker Jerry Yates ahead of Blackburn Rovers and QPR. Stoke City were also keen on the 27-year-old.

Yates has been tipped for a move away from the Swans this summer having struggled to make a telling impact in his first season with the club.

He scored nine goals in 46 games across all competitions, also managing an assist.

Who is this?

A smart swoop?

Yates may not have enjoyed the most fruitful first season with Swansea City, but he’s shown that he can be a goalscorer at this level. Derby County will be hoping they can get the best out of the 27-year-old should they wrap up this loan move.

For Blackburn Rovers, QPR and Stoke City, they’ll have to turn their elsewhere as they look set to miss out on what would have been a shrewd loan swoop.

All three sides will be in the market for another goalscorer this summer, so they’ll likely have alternative options lined up to move for if Yates does indeed head to Pride Park.

The window is still in its very early stages, so there’s plenty of time to turn attentions elsewhere before alarm bells start to ring.

Something new for Derby County

In Yates, Warne will be getting something a bit different to his other striker options.

Derby County have largely relied upon experienced players to deliver at the top of the pitch. James Collins assumed the mantle as leading talisman last season while the likes of Martin Waghorn, Dwight Gayle and Conor Washington offered cover and competition.

Tyreece John-Jules was a younger option, but his loan was hampered by injury.

Blackburn Rovers and QPR target Yates will offer energy at the top of the pitch, and he’ll know exactly what to expect from Warne given their time together at Rotherham United too.

It remains to be seen if and when the deal gets done, but this looks to be a smart move from Derby County as they prepare to return to Championship football.
