Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has admitted in-demand goalkeeper Viktor Johansson will more than likely ‘leave’ the club this summer.

Rotherham United are preparing for life back in League One and are poised to cut ties with their number one.

Johnasson, 25, is wanted by Stoke City, as per reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, whilst Aftonbladet claim Leeds United are keen. Meanwhile, Sheffield United have been linked with him for a while.

In this latest update, Evans has told the Rotherham Advertiser: “The chances are that, with the huge interest in him, Viktor will leave in the summer. It will probably be a life-changing move for the kid.”

Rotherham United ace expected to leave

Johansson has been a stand out player for Rotherham United in this campaign despite their troubles on the pitch.

The Sweden international deserves to be playing in at least the Championship next term and would be a decent option for a team at that level.

He has proved himself over recent years and selling him in the next window would help the Millers financially as they look to gain an immediate promotion.

Stoke City have a big couple of months ahead as Steven Schumacher looks to prepare for his first full season in charge of the Potters. They will have a vacancy to fill between the sticks when Daniel Iverson returns to Leicester City.

Leeds United’s current focus is on getting promoted to the Premier League as they battle it out with Ipswich Town for 2nd place. The Whites’ first choice right now is Ilan Meslier, with Karl Darlow as back-up.

As for Sheffield United, they are back in the Football League after their relegation was confirmed over the weekend following their heavy defeat at Newcastle United. The Blades will be eyeing reinforcements under Chris Wilder.

Johansson joined Rotherham United in 2020 from Leicester City and has since made 143 appearances for the South Yorkshire outfit.

The Millers lost 2-0 at Bristol City last time out and he was on the bench with Dillon Phillips taking his place. Evans’ men face Cardiff City at home this weekend on the final day.
