Stoke City have been given permission to speak to Norwich City first-team coach Narcis Pelach, according to The Telegraph journalist John Percy on X.

Stoke City have made the surprise decision to part company with Steven Schumacher on Monday morning is a move that has raised eyebrows among their fanbase. They are sat in 13th place in the Championship table after winning two of their first five league fixtures of the new season.

Pelach, 36, joined fellow second tier outfit Norwich City in May last year and worked under David Wagner at Carrow Road last season. He has since stayed in his position under their new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup.

However, in this latest update regarding his situation, reporter Percy has reported on X that he is due to hold discussions with the Potters over their managerial vacancy. If he was to move to the Bet365 Stadium, he is expected to take goalkeeper coach Paul Clements with him.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

Stoke City managerial latest

Pelach would be a strange appointment by Stoke City, especially after cutting ties with Schumacher.

Their decision to sack the former Plymouth Argyle man hasn’t gone down too well with their supporters.

He joined them last December and managed to keep them up with ease in the end. The 40-year-old was then backed heavily over the summer and despite the fact they have lost three matches so far in this campaign, he should have arguably been given a bit more time to get some consistency to their results.

Stoke City are now going back to square one with potentially a manager who has no experience of being a number one.

For the first time in a few years they had some stability under Schumacher and despite losing a few times recently, they have some winnable home matches coming up against Hull City and Portsmouth who haven’t won yet this term.

Who is Pelach?

Pelach is from Spain and spent his playing days in the lower leagues of his native country with the likes of Cassa and Figueros.

He delved into the coaching world with the latter in 2014 and ended up moving on to Peralada in 2018.

Girona then came calling and he spent 12 months as their assistant before switching to England.

Pelach linked up with Carlos Corberan’s backroom staff at Huddersfield Town and later became their interim manager on two occasions.

Norwich City came calling last year and they ended up making the play-offs under Wagner in the last campaign. However, they were beaten at the semi-finals stage over two legs by Leeds United.

Pelach has remained in East Anglia but is now wanted by Stoke City. They face Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup tomorrow.
