Stoke City defender Ashley Phillips remains sidelined this weekend, as detailed in a report by StokeOnTrentLive.

Stoke City are back in Championship action this weekend with an away trip to the Riverside Stadium to face Middlesbrough in Narcis Pelach’s second game in charge. They lost 3-1 at home to Stoke City in his first outing at the Bet365 Stadium last time out.

Phillips, 19, joined the Potters on loan this past summer from Tottenham Hotspur to get some more experience under his belt in the Football League. He is due to spend the entire season in Staffordshire and has made three appearances in all competitions already, one of which has come in the league.

He picked up a blow to the head in the Carabao Cup against League Two side Fleetwood Town on 17th September and has since been out of action as the club follows concussion protocols. In this latest update, StokeOnTrentLive report he is still unavailable.

Stoke City selection update

Stoke City landed Phillips to add more competition to their defensive department.

He was given the green light to leave Spurs again to further boost his development.

The centre-back appears to be highly-rated at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is under contract with the Premier League side until 2028.

Phillips started his career with non-league side Curzon Ashton before Blackburn Rovers snapped him up in 2017.

He rose up through the ranks at Ewood Park and penned his first professional contract in 2022.

The Mancunian made his debut in the same year in a Carabao Cup clash against Hartlepool United and went on to play 14 times for Rovers.

Spurs then lured him down south in 2023 but he is yet to feature for their senior team.

He was loaned out to Plymouth Argyle last winter and played 20 matches for the Pilgrims to help them avoid relegation to League One.

What now?

Stoke City are carefully monitoring his condition and he won’t feature at Middlesbrough.

Following their clash against Michael Carrick’s side, the Potters have matches against Portsmouth and Swansea City before the next international break.
