Stoke City boss Narcis Pelach has heaped praise on Swansea City’s Matt Grimes following their weekend clash.

Stoke City drew 0-0 at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday afternoon. They weren’t able to break the deadlock and returned to Staffordshire with a point.

Grimes, 29, has been a key player for the Swans in the middle of the park over recent years. He caught the eye of his opposition’s manager last time out.

Speaking after the game, Pelach said, as per a report by StokeOnTrentLive: ”We have to assess today (Saturday) and see what happened but again I saw a lot of sprints to put pressure on the ball against a very, very good team. Matt Grimes is such a good player. He dictates the game and plays very well.

It’s difficult to do it against them and I know from playing against him with Huddersfield and Norwich that it’s tough. To see a good battle, two teams trying to get a win. I think it was nice to see.”

Swansea City signed Grimes back in 2015 and he has been a loyal servant to them over the past nine years as he closes in on a decade.

The Exeter-born man rose up through the academy ranks at Exeter City and broke into the first-team of the Grecians before moving to his current club.

He was loaned out by the Swans to Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United and Northampton Town in his early years in Wales.

Grimes has since become one of their most prized assets and has made over 300 appearances in all competitions to date.

He is under contract until June 2027 meaning he still has a few years left to run on his deal which is good news for Luke Williams’ side.

What next?

Swansea City head into the international break sat in 11th place in the table.

They will be disappointed that they weren’t able to get a win over Stoke City on their own patch but they are only four points off the play-offs.

As for the Potters, they are down in 17th place and are three points above the drop zone.
