Andy's Player Ratings: Sunderland 1-0 Millwall — Back to winning ways

03/29/2025 01:03 PM
Trai Hume's cracking volley sealed a much needed three points and clean sheet for Sunderland against Millwall. Here's how Andy rated the Lads!
Anthony Patterson: 6/10
Protected well today, with only some straight forward balls to deal with. Typically average distribution but not helped by the windy conditions.
Alan Browne: 7/10
Slotted in at right back and did well, was good defensively and got forward often to support Roberts.
Chris Mepham: 8/10
A difficult afternoon due to the wind and a physical opponent in Coburn but came out on top in that duel and made a game saving block in injury time.
Luke O'Nien: 7/10
Defensively was solid all afternoon, not giving Aaron Connolly a sniff, but bizarrely stepped forward when Mundle won a penalty and did his best Micky Gray impression.
Trai Hume: 8/10
Looked very comfortable at left back and was a threat going forward, combining well with Mundle. Scored the winner with a really well taken volley and hit another well struck effort just over.
Dan Neil (C): 7/10
Very subdued in the first half but was a lot more involved after the break, getting forward more often and making the team tick.
Jobe Bellingham: 7/10
Worked hard to protect the back four and got himself well placed a couple of times in the second half to get on the end of Roberts' cut backs but both shots were well blocked.
Patrick Roberts: 8/10
Maybe didn't see enough of the ball at times but was a danger to the visitors all afternoon. Got an assist with a lovely cross to Hume.
Romaine Mundle: 7/10
A much more lively performance by Mundle today, who looks to be getting up to speed after his injury lay off. Won a penalty after being hauled down in the box but got a bit stroppy after not being allowed to take it, which was fair enough considering the end result of that penalty.
Chris Rigg: 7/10
Drifted in and out of the game at times, partly due to tactics, but some nice interchanges with Roberts and Browne down the right and always hassling the Millwall defence.
Wilson Isidor: 6/10
Worked hard off the ball, with little reward, and had one great chance to score but it was a fantastic save to keep out his header.
Substitutes
Eliezer Mayenda: 6/10
Came on late and made a couple of driving runs.
Tommy Watson: 6/10
Another late change with not much chance to influence the game.
Man of the Match: Trai Hume
Shifted over to left back after being a doubt himself due to injury but slotted in there to great effect. Defended well all game, linked up with Mundle and then scored the winner himself with a well taken volley from Roberts' cross.
