Dear Roker Report,
I must agree with many fans regarding Jewison Bennette.
When he signed, and due to language difficulties, he didn't play. Months down the line, when he was selected, he did several twists and turns then provided a golden opportunity for Chris Rigg to score against Southampton.
OK, he was only on the field for around twenty minutes and I thought he was a player in the making, but managers choose to ignore his talents.
Have I been wrong for so long?
Harry Nixon
Ed's Note [Phil]: Hi, Harry. Thank you for your letter.
Frankly, exactly what's happened to Jewison Bennette is one of the most enduring Sunderland-related mysteries of modern times, and I'm as puzzled as you regarding the Costa Rican winger's current status on Wearside.
As you say, his last contribution of setting up a goal for Chris Rigg during that glorious 5-0 demolition of Southampton was another tantalising glimpse of his ability, and I'm convinced there's a talented player there, but exactly what the future holds for Bennette is anyone's guess- even if feels like it won't be in the red and white stripes.
A very strange one!
Dear Roker Report,
We have tough matches over the next three games, but if we can play like we did in the second half against Swansea, there's no reason we can't get maximum points.
At this stage, we don't need injuries and yellow cards are becoming a big problem. However, we can try to take the momentum forward and keep within reach of the top two.
Sheffield United is a 'six pointer', but we matched them in the last game and they won by an odd goal.
Régis Le Bris is doing a great job despite not having English football experience.
Let's go for it!
Bill Calvert
Ed's Note [Phil]: Hi, Bill. Thank you for getting in touch.
We've certainly got some tricky-looking fixtures lined up in the weeks to come (the Boxing Day trip to Blackburn Rovers should be a good game, because they're in very good form under John Eustace), and our promotion credentials will be tested to the maximum.
That said, last Saturday's victory over Swansea showed that we've got the determination to keep fighting until the very end, and that's a quality that should serve us very well.
This is always a crucial part of the season for any team with promotion aspirations, but I'm hopeful that the Lads can rise to the challenge.
