"Besides being relegated, the only benefit would be the parachute payments" — RR reader Michael doesn't like the sound of promotion.Got something to say? Email us: RokerReport@yahoo.co.uk
Dear Roker Report,
I think it would be fair to say that for a long (and I mean very long) time we have lacked a team that we knew put 110% on the pitch every game.
Since the Dreyfus/Speakmann change I think it's fair to say with the players that we have brought in, this has changed and we are seeing a team that the city can be proud of once again (possibly bar the Beale blip).
On that basis, there doesn't appear to be any specific player songs sung on a regular basis...
For one, why isn't there a Jobe Bellingham song to the tune of Sweet Caroline... The same tune could be used for Luke O'Nien alternatively.
"Humeeee" seems to have replaced "Goooooch", however clearly as a fan favourite is he not deserving of something more?
For too long I think we've relied on the classics such as "Shearer is a wanker" however I think it's time to turn the page.
I will hold my hands up and since I'm more the ideas guy than the creative guy but wondering if there is anyone on that side trying to accomplish the same!
Cheers all!

Ed's Note [Gav]: As a general rule I think when it comes to chants and trying to "force it", it rarely works. It'll happen naturally, there will be songs kicking off on the buses and trains and concourses at away games, they'll catch fire and people will catch on. There'll be viral videos on social media and then boom — it sticks. Jobe has a chant to the tune of "baby give it up" by KC and the Sunshine Band, which isn't particularly innovative but it works!
Dear Roker Report,
I hate to be negative about the team I love, but looking at the standard of play in the league we aspire to if promoted, it's clear that, with the current squad, we'd be lucky to achieve zero points. Besides being relegated, the only benefit would be the parachute payments.
Today's performance against Stoke was appalling. It was a match we should have won, but we managed to get ourselves beaten due to a lack of concentration at the death. My team, at times, really doesn't make life easy!

Ed's Note [Gav]: What an absolutely ridiculous statement. It's clear how? We'd certainly struggle but to say we'd not win a single point is daft. We lost, it happens, move on. We've lost four games all season and they've all been close, by one goal. We've had a brilliant season to this point and are about where I'd have expected us to be — fourth, behind three teams coincidentally propped up by Premier League money.
Playoffs would be an amazing achievement and if we get there, I'd fancy us to win it.
