Lasses Report: Sunderland 2-1 Blackburn Rovers - Snot Rocket with the winning assist!
11/11/2024 01:00 AM
Sunderland pressed on to their third win in a row with a resilient display at home, turning over Blackburn Rovers Women.
So, the last time I did one of these, we lost 5-0, so for you readers, I'm really glad to be commenting on a win.
Sunderland had to work for that today. Blackburn are a strong and physical side proven early on when Grace Ede appeared to be punched in the head.
We had to patient and work hard for the goals but the first one came when the referee missed a blatant foul on McAteer but Kitch was there to pick up the pieces and score her third goal in a week. I thought we would press on, but we really shot ourselves in the foot with conceding just before half time with a sloppy piece of play. There was possibly a hint of offside, but we still should have defended a lot better.
The second half brought more chances from the Lasses, and Blackburn was pegged back, but we couldn't get the second goal. Mel made a change to bring off Jenna Dear, who had taken a knock for Peggy Snot Rocket McInnes. It was Peggy who changed the game with a delicious through ball for Eleanor Dale to blast home to spark joy amongst Eppleton. It was a last rocket of firework season. Dale has now got four goals in three games, and her confidence has massively lifted since getting her first goal for the club.

The Lasses had to defend massively at the end of the game. Amy Goddard and the league debutant Ella West were absolutely outstanding in dealing with everything Blackburn threw at us. Marshalled superbly by Tash Fenton who for me, had her best game this season.
So, three wins in three and although we are 8th in the table, we are only six leaders Birmingham with a game in hand. Added to the fact we have a couple of winnable games coming up.
Dare to dream? Maybe.
One last thing from me really is to congratulate Ella West on a massively strong debut. Great to see another young lass who looks the part. Congrats Ella.
