Player has to choose whether to join Sunderland – Loan with option to buy

On Tuesday evening, we covered a report from Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf which explained Leicester City had become a ‘very concrete’ potential destination for Chuba Akpom.

The Ajax striker is being linked with an Amsterdam exit in January, as he has been in every window since he joined the club from Middlesbrough.

Sunderland and Marseille were presented as the other options for the 29-year-old. That was despite it earlier being reported that Akpom wasn’t at all keen on a move to Sunderland.

De Telegraaf are now back with a fresh report, and this time they report Leicester City have dropped out.

So does that leave just Sunderland and Marseille? Not quite, Marseille don’t even get a mention this time and it’s stated Akpom can choose between Sunderland, Lille and Fiorentina.

Ajax want him out because he’s third choice striker and one of their highest earners, and he’ll be allowed to leave on loan for the rest of the season with a purchase option.

So for Akpom it’s Sunderland, Lille or Fiorentina. That is unless things change again.
