Ange Postecoglou has issued a statement on the future of Destiny Udogie amidst speculation linking him with a move away from Tottenham this summer, with the Australian explaining what he expects the Italian defender to do in the next two or three years.

Udogie took the Premier League by storm in his debut season after arriving at Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, but he has struggled to hit the same sort of heights in his second season at N17, with some of his performances throughout this campaign leaving a lot to be desired.

However, the 22-year-old has looked back to his best over recent weeks, and he was one of the best players on the pitch for the Lilywhites in their 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt last Thursday.

Some Spurs fans have questioned if Udogie’s improved performances are down to Man City’s rumoured interest, but they will be pleased to hear what Postecoglou has now said about the left-back’s future.

Ange Postecoglou makes confident Destiny Udogie prediction

Postecoglou has now lavished praise on the former Udinese man, explaining that he has been impressed with the defender from the moment he set foot at Hotspur Way.

The Australian pointed out that Udogie has suffered a number of injuries this season, which have curtailed his momentum.

Postecoglou predicted that the Italy international is one of several Spurs players who are going to evolve into top-class performers in the next two to three years.

When asked about Destiny Udogie, the Tottenham boss said (via Alasdair Gold): “He’s outstanding. From the moment I arrived, I felt he was going to be a really outstanding player for us. So much growth still to come, physically he’s got outstanding attributes for that position, but he’s improving his game all the time.

“He’s obviously had two seasons where he’s had some injury issues that have disrupted him a little bit, but even that, I just think it’s part of his growth physically and coping with the levels. He’s hugely important to us.

“His profile as a left back, in particular the way we play, but in general, is pretty unique in that he’s big, he’s powerful, technically he’s good going forward but also a very good defender.

“Yeah, he’s in a good space at the moment and I still think him, with a number of others, I just think in the next two to three years they’re going to be really, really important players for this club.”

Daniel Levy’s summer plans for Udogie revealed

It was reported by some outlets last week that Daniel Levy will not let Udogie go without a fight, with the Tottenham chairman expected to make it very difficult for City to land the 22-year-old.

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg even went a step further and suggested that Spurs have no intention of selling Udogie under any circumstances this summer.

In fact, Plettenberg added that the North London club want to add another left-back to their squad this summer to compete with Udogie.
