"By the looks of things..": Insider opens up on Tottenham interest in 25-year-old title winner

Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen on signing the Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.
According to former Tottenham scout Mick Brown, the North London club sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old Italian International in the past. However, they have missed out on him and the player is now an indispensable asset for the Italian champions.
Bastoni played a key role in Inter Milan's title win last season and he has established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe football. Tottenham could certainly use someone like him, and he could have been a key player for the North London club if they had managed to get the deal done in the past.
Brown has revealed to Football Insider that Tottenham wanted to sign the player when Fabio Paratici was at the club.
"They were keeping an eye on him and had sent scouts to watch him on numerous occasions.
"That was thanks to their connections in the Italian market with the former Juventus director who was there.
"How far they got towards signing him, I'm not sure, but I know they wanted him and he was very highly thought-of there, so I expect he still is.
"By the looks of things, they might have missed out, because he's a key player for Inter now."
Tottenham could use a quality central defender now and they are lacking in depth in the defensive unit. It will be interesting to see if they can bring in quality additions over the next few months.
They need to add more quality and depth to their side if they want to challenge for major trophies. Signing a quality central defender will certainly help them improve.
Bastoni could have found a formidable partnership with the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. They have been linked with multiple defenders in recent months, and it will be interesting to see who they end up with.
