Know him, do you?

Joe Rodon's Tottenham Hotspur career hasn't quite gone as planned. Joining from Swansea, the Welsh center back came with a strong reputation from the Championship and was viewed as a somebody with huge potential for the future. Unfortunately, minutes were hard to come by for Rodon under a succession of disparate managers, and he was forced to find match time elsewhere.

He found that at Leeds United, where he flourished on loan in the Championship over the course of the 23/24 season. It seemed almost a fait accompli that The Whites would secure Rodon's signature permanently as they seemed on track to be promoted to the Premier League, but a late season collapse with only 4 points from 6 matches saw Leeds forced into the play-off spots. Unable to find their way past Southampton in the play-off final, Leeds will be playing Championship football again next season, and that may put a spanner in the works as to their ability to sign Rodon, as the Welshman is likely setting his sights higher than the English second division.

Enter Alasdair Gold with a minor update.

Writing for Football London yesterday, Gold mentioned Rodon as one of a laundry list of potential exits from Spurs. Though there is undoubtedly some talent there, Rodon would likely find minutes hard to come by behind Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, and even Ben Davies, and with Ange Postecoglou trying to rebuild the team in his image funds from a sale are probably the best option for the club at this point.

The interesting bit stated by Gold is prior interest from Ipswich Town. Newly promoted to the Premier League, The Tractor Boys (yes, they're actually called that) will be looking to add depth to their side in order to aid their efforts to remain in the top-flight, and Rodon was previously a player of interest. Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna is reportedly a huge fan of Rodon and was very close to bringing the center back to the club before Leeds swooped in and secured his signature.

Ipswich therefore present as a good potential destination for Rodon next season, with coffers freshly filled following promotion, and with Rodon likely to want to try his hand in the Premier League. There's nothing actually concrete here in terms of current interest, as it's just putting two-and-two together; but it's interesting information, nonetheless, and I wouldn't be surprised if Ipswich return with a bid to tempt Spurs.

Let's see.
