"He has been fantastic for us" – Ange heaps praise on unsung Spurs hero topping stat chart

Ange Postecoglou has praised the performances of Rodrigo Bentancur and believes the midfielder is something of an unsung hero for Spurs.

Bentancur has played just 307 Premier League minutes this season, missing the 4-0 win over Everton in August due to injury, while he came off the bench for just eight minutes against Newcastle last month.

Nevertheless, the Uruguay international has started each of Tottenham's last three league matches and was particularly impressive in the 3-0 win over Man Utd at Old Trafford, registering a 96% pass completion rate, while making eight passes into the final third and eight recoveries.

In fact, despite his limited minutes, no Spurs player has made more interceptions than Bentancur in the Premier League this season (9), while he's first among Tottenham players with more than 25 minutes for possessions won in the middle third per 90 minutes (3.22).

Postecoglou praises 'important' Rodrigo Bentancur role for Spurs

Postecoglou has complimented the 'important' role Bentancur plays at the base of Tottenham's midfield, despite not getting the sort of praise reserved for teammates like Brennan Johnson, Micky van de Ven or Dominic Solanke recently.

"Rodrigo Bentancur has also been pretty important when he's played," Postecoglou told Sky Sports ahead of this Sunday's clash with Brighton. "That six position is a really important one for us. He's gone under the radar over the last few games but that goes to show what a good job he's doing.

"That role is one where it kind of keeps things ticking over for us with the ball and gives us that defensive stability without the ball.

"The fact that he's done that role without too much attention shows he has been fantastic for us."
