"I won't be here" – Ange Postecoglou makes worrying admission about his future at Tottenham after Erik ten Hag's sacking

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou recently shared his views on his long-term future at the club, stating that he doesn't expect being at Spurs in five years.

His comments arrive amid the Premier League's managerial landscape, following Erik Ten Hag's recent sacking from Manchester United.

Reflecting on the shifting nature of football management, Postecoglou admitted that stability is increasingly rare for managers in today's game.

Rather than focusing on job security, Postecoglou believes his effectiveness hinges on a commitment to the club's present needs and longer-term growth.

He explained that constantly worrying about one's position can negatively impact a manager's decision-making, detracting from the focus needed to lead effectively.

Instead, Postecoglou's goal is to stay dedicated to Tottenham, making decisions that benefit the team without the pressure of longevity overshadowing his objectives.

Speaking during a pre-game presser ahead of the EFL Cup tie against Man City, the Australian coach said (via Football London):

"I've, and it's easier to say, never worried about job security. I think if you do you're probably going to end up not doing the role the justice it deserves for yourself more than anything else.

"The reality is there is no job security. I don't know what job security looks like. What is the average tenure of a manager these days? If you think I'm going to be around for five years that is highly unlikely.

"If you worry about those things and I think you end up chasing your tail a little bit and probably making decisions for the wrong reasons. As I've said before, I understand I won't be here forever but I work as if I will be and I make decisions that will get us to be a successful club. If you deviate from that then the inevitability is the end will probably come sooner than you want."

Since taking over the job at Tottenham last season, Postecoglou has made a strong impression, earning praise from fans and pundits.

He quickly made a name for himself, going on a 10-game unbeaten run, winning 8 and drawing two and earning consecutive Manager of the Month awards for August, September and October, marking an impressive achievement for a debut season manager.

With 54 games under his belt, including 29 wins, 7 draws, and 18 losses, Postecoglou's record reflects a positive trajectory for Spurs. Despite that, his future at the club has already come under uncertainty after potential new investor, Amanda Staveley, reportedly wants to replace him with Eddie Howe.

Although the 59-year-old coach anticipates an eventual departure, his focus remains on driving Tottenham's success in the present.

Fans can be reassured by Postecoglou's commitment to maximise his time at the club, regardless of what the future might hold.
