'Not out of the question' Tottenham will pay up for player – Spurs have a decision to make

Tottenham Hotspur's Timo Werner has been ruled out for the rest of this season after picking up an injury in his side's defeat to Arsenal last weekend.

The forward joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in January and the north London club have an option to make his stay permanent for €17m.

Bild on Friday questions what the 28-year-old's injury means for RB Leipzig, meaning do they have to be worried about him returning to the Bundesliga side.

The Germany international's contract at Leipzig lasts until 2026 and if he were to return to the club, it would become an issue for them in the summer.

Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder has held talks with the Tottenham man after he suffered the latest setback.

"We had already had brief contact with Timo, and of course we wished him well. The end of the season is bitter for him. He was good at it, was a regular player and achieved good performances and scored for Tottenham. So far the loan has delivered what all parties had hoped for," he told Bild.

They also asked Leipzig manager Marco Rose about the former Chelsea man's future.

"Tottenham still have a hand on it," Rose explained.

Bild state the manager's comment indicates that despite Werner's injury, it's 'still not out of the question' that Tottenham will pay up to buy him, andAnge Postecoglou's side have a decision to make on his future.

This report comes days after the same outlet stated it's still conceivable that Tottenham will activate Werner's clause because the €17m fee is a bargain for them.

Werner has managed two goals and three assists from 14 games for Spurs this year.
