"The quality" – Pep Guardiola in awe as two Spurs stars demolish his Man City team
Today at 07:00 AM
Saturday's 4-0 win against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City was undoubtedly the zenith of Ange Postecoglou's reign at Tottenham Hotspur so far.
Spurs ripped the reigning champions apart on their own turf, with two goals in each half capping off a stunning performance.
Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson finished the job in the second half. However, the first half was all about a show put on by James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.
Maddison netted two goals inside the first 20 minutes, while registering 100% dribble success and winning nine of his 13 ground duels.
And it was Kulusevski who set up Maddison's opener with a sublime pass behind the City defence. The Sweden international created three chances across the 90 minutes while completing a match-high four dribbles at a 100% success rate and playing a key role in the break for Pedro Porro to make it 3-0.
Pep Guardiola hails Spurs duo after Man City thrashing
Smarting after losing an unprecedented fifth straight game, Man City boss Pep Guardiola was still able to praise the 'quality' of Spurs' deadly duo.
"Well, 0-4, nothing much to say, right. Congratulations Tottenham," Guardiola said after the match (via TBR).
"We are a little bit fragile now. We started really well and we couldn't score. And the first time they arrive [in our box] they score.
"Of course, the quality of Kulusevski and Maddison was good."
For Kulusevski, Saturday's performance was just the latest high point in what has been an excellent season so far.
Maddison, meanwhile, still has 'more' to offer for Spurs if Postecoglou's post-match comments are anything to go by.
Spurs will hope to build on this victory when they host Roma and Fulham over the next week in the Europa League and Premier League, respectively.
