Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has been linked with a move away from the club and the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are keen on securing his signature.
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are confident of signing the player this month, ahead of rivals Chelsea. The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the finest young attacking talents in the Premier League and he could prove to be a long-term acquisition for the North London club.
Although they have spent a substantial amount of money on Dominic Solanke at the start of the season, they need more depth in the attacking unit. Tottenham need another striker who can share the goalscoring burden with Solanke. Delap could prove to be the ideal acquisition.
Despite Ipswich's struggles this season, the young attacker has shown his quality in the Premier League, and there is no doubt that he is good enough to play for a bigger club. The opportunity to join Tottenham could be an exciting one for him. They could provide him with the platform to compete at a higher level, and he could experience European football with them as well.
Meanwhile, Spurs have had a disappointing season so far and they could miss out on European qualification for the next season. They need to improve their squad this month so that they can bounce back strongly in the coming weeks. Signing a quality striker will certainly help them improve going forward. The 21-year-old is well-settled in English football and he could make an instant impact at Tottenham.
Similarly, Chelsea need more depth in the attack as well and Delap could compete with Nicolas Jackson for the starting spot. Chelsea have done reasonably well this season and they are chasing Champions League qualification. A quality signing in January could help them improve further.
